Although established in 1979, the law firm of Redden, Mills, Clark & Shaw, LLP actually dates back more than 50 years. Throughout the years, we have benefitted from the presence of some of the greatest legal minds in Alabama history. Our current team of dedicated lawyers seeks to build on that reputation, offering our clients exemplary legal representation for their most critical legal matters.

William H. Mills – graduated from the University of Alabama in 1953 and from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1956. He has been with this firm or its predecessor since graduation from law school. Mr. Mills has extensive experience in representing clients in a wide array of civil and criminal cases. He has successfully argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, and he has arbitrated numerous disputes involving labor-management contracts.

William N. Clark – graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1963 and from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1971. He served as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and has practiced continually since that time with Redden, Mills, Clark & Shaw, LLP or its predecessor. With Drew Redden as his mentor, Mr. Clark became one of the leading attorneys in Alabama in the areas of criminal defense and family law, successfully trying many cases. He has served as President of the Alabama State Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Foundation, and the Alabama Law School Foundation. He was awarded the Alabama State Bar Award of Merit in 1981 for his service as Chairman of the State Bar Committee on Indigent Defense. Mr. Clark is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of criminal defense and domestic relations. He retired in 1999 as a Major General in the Army Reserve after almost 36 years in the Active Army and Army Reserve, whereupon he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.

Stephen W. Shaw – graduated from the University of Alabama in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Commerce and Business. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of law in 1980. Following a clerkship with a federal judge, Mr. Shaw joined Redden, Mills, Clark & Shaw, LLP as an associate and then became a partner. He is currently a Commissioner on the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the Vice-Chair of the Emmet O’Neal Library Board in Mountain Brook, Alabama.

Drew Redden – Deceased

Drew Redden attended law school after serving in World War II. A former Assistant United States Attorney-for-the Northern District of Alabama he participated in many of the most prominent trials, both criminal and civil, that occurred in the State of Alabama during his years in the legal profession. Mr. Redden passed away in July of 2007. To his fellow partners, he left behind an example that will inform the rest of their careers. His professionalism, high ethical standards and dedication to helping people are the hallmarks of our firm today.

George M. Rogers – Deceased

A legendary figure who stands out in our firm’s history, as well as Alabama legal history, is George M. Rogers. At his death, Mr. Rogers was a senior partner of Rogers, Howard, Redden & Mills, which later became Redden, Mills & Clark. He was widely known as one of the most able and effective criminal defense lawyers of his time, having successfully defended one of the two men accused of murder in the Phenix City cases. George Rogers was a consummate courtroom litigator with a common touch that appealed to judges and juries alike. The skill and tenacity with which he defended his clients are examples that our current team of defense lawyers try to live up to every day.
